The idyllic north east of rural Majorca

Majorca's culture

As our awareness regarding organic products and the importance of supporting local economy grows ever more, a new type of tourism has emerged in recent years. The concept is to go abroad on holiday, and spend your time on a countryside farm (called agroturism farm), is something that appeals to more and more. And why not?

Imagine that you are looking out over the Majorcan landscape. You see olive groves, clusters of almond trees, the occasional gnarled oak, old small stone house that stubbornly stays put in place although they are several hundred years old .. With the sun warming your back, you realize how quiet it is. No murmur of cars, nor of hundreds of people .. Only occasional gusts of wind to get the canopy of the trees to relucantly move, and the distanst tinkling from grazing sheep and goats.

Agroturism is a new way to stay during vacation, and something that is steadily increasing in poularitet. An agriturismo is a farm with his own production of different organic products (olive oil, vegetables, meat, etc.), which also offers accommodation. A stay at a agroturism is to really take a break from all the must-haves, and just allow yourself to enjoy and be in the present. And enjoy your time in Majorca always comes very, very easy, especially in combination with golf.

Capdepera is a quiet, peaceful area on the east coast of Mallorca, known for its beautiful vistas, its agriculture and its coastline which offers many beautiful beaches and coves. In this area there are three different agroturisms we recommend, for those of you who are curious to know a little more.

Predi Son Jaumell

Predi Son Jaumell was formerly a manor house, and consists of old honey colored stone embedded in a peaceful valley, 5 minutes from the small town of Capdepera. The staffs at the hotel are nice and incredibly service-oriented, and do everything that you feel welcome.

The restaurant is spectacular, and is run by the talented chef Andreu Genestra, the first majorcan to ever recieve a Michelin star.

The breakfast is lovely, with local produce such as as fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices, various jams and marmalades, homemade cheeses and traditional Majorcan yogurt and freshly baked, fluffy bread. It seems as the kitchen staff never in their lives have uttered the phrase "it is not on the menu," so if you are missing something on the breakfast table, just ask.

Lunch is casual, simple and delicious, made with wonderufl fresh ingredients. As different vegetables are harvested in the garden, the menu is adjusted to offer the freshest foods.

The dinner is a completely different story the lunch. The dishes served have their roots firmly planted in the traditional Majorcan cuisine, with a refreshing modern twist. Add to this the amazing knowledge of the maître and the combination of food and wine becomes something completely out of the ordinary.

Son Jaumells honey-colored stone buildings are internally transformed into modern, rustic suites with large bathrooms and generally plenty of space. From the soft and generous sunbeds you have a lovely view of the small town Capdepera while munching on roasted almonds and enjoying the afternoon in the soft the sunlight.

Cases de Son Barbassa

In the Natural Park of Llevant, who is known for his defense tower from the 1500s, we find the agrotourism Cases de Son Barbassa. With just a few kilometers from the medieval center of the town of Capdepera, its proximity to the beaches of Cala Mesquida and Cala Agulla and 5 minutes from the tourist center of Cala Ratjada, Son Barbassa offers the perfect location.

Breakfast and dinner are served outside on the terrace, amongst wild roses and lavender scent and inside the restaurant. Here you can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine made from fresh and natural products. Cases de Son Barabassa produce most ingredients themselves, and if you want something genuine of Majorca it is strongly advised to buy the Son Barbassas own olive oil. All olives are harvested by hand, and when the olives are cold pressed and the oil is completed, it has an intense aroma of olives, sweet with a slight peppery after note with aromas of almonds and green herbs.

The agrotourism has twelve rooms, all decorated in a simple, relaxed country style with modern elements. The rooms are large and comfortable, each with its own personality. The farm's old tower and the old kitchen has been redesigned and renovated, and are now rather cozy nooks with puffy couches that invite you to sit down and read and relax.

Ses Cases de Fetget

This is a traditional farmhouse located on a vast country estate alongside the sea. Ses Cases de Fetget is the ultimate place to discover Majorca and the Majorcan landscape in very a different light. This 17th-century Majorcan house is located between Son Servera and Artá, on a stretch of land that is surrounded by mountains and almond groves. The estate's buildings were restored, with utmost respect for their original features and personality. This is indeed an ideal spot for an unforgettable encounter with nature. Nestled in the Llevant Natural Park, trees and vegetation adorn a space that is reigned by peace and tranquillity.

Another important reason to visit Ses Cases de Fetget is its restaurant, with updated menu that still has its roots in traditional Mediterranean cuisine with natural and fresh ingredients with elements of surprise and originality. This is combined with an excellent service and a wonderful selection of wines. One of the secrets behind the lovely food is the farm's organic kitchen garden where they grow their vegetables.

The rooms are well designed, and beautifully restored. It is obvious that this process has not been rushed, and that they were adamant to keep the beautiful details that give the farm its special charm. This consistency between the floors, the walls and the beautiful beamed ceilings make the rooms feel incredibly harmonious and peaceful, making it easy to relax. The pool has a great view, and is very refreshing after a round of golf at one of the golf courses nearby.
